HALIDES PEROVSKITES

Development and synthesis of new materials for radioactivity detection and isotope identification.

Making radioactivity measurement more accessible

Perovskites are part of a vast family of materials with varied and exceptional functional properties. KEP Technologies masters the processes for manufacturing perovskites in crystalline form.

It is precisely the crystalline structure of perovskites that provides the properties required for the detection and characterisation of radioactive materials.

Under its SETSAFE brand, KEP Technologies is developing nuclear measurement solutions that take advantage of the unique properties of perovskites. Knowledge and control of the synthesis of these materials benefit from more than 10 years’ experience and research at EPFL in Prof. Forró’s group.

Applications

Rediscovered in the 2010s for their use in photovoltaic solar energy, HALIDE PEROVSKITES have since been studied for ionizing radiation detection. Depending on their design and performance, devices based on this technology can detect radioactive sources for defense purposes, or to protect the public against nuclear and radiological risks. Their ability to detect and even identify radioactive isotopes also opens up prospects in the fields of industrial nuclear safety and medical applications.

What makes them unique?

  • A COMBINATION OF KEY PROPERTIES

Semi-conductivity, high radiation absorption, efficient charge transport: the ideal combo for detector development.

  • IDEAL FOR ELECTRODE INTEGRATION

Their shape and synthesis process allow great flexibility in the design and addition of electrode assemblies.

  • A WELL-CONTROLLED PRODUCTION PROCESS

The crystals are synthesized in our laboratory in Switzerland, in standard or custom sizes. They are encapsulated to increase their shelf life.
